How to use the calculator

Growth charts differ by age and gender. To view the appropriate charts, enter your child's gender, date of birth, and other measurements (weight, length, and head circumference). You can enter the measurements that the nurses at Tipat Halav (Family Care Center) took, or you can measure your child yourself. Please keep in mind that measurements taken at home are not as accurate as those done by nurses. What is a growth chart and how to measure

Most importantly: do not be nervous, make an appointment

Do not be concerned if the results appear irregular. Often, there is an explanation that does not point to a problem. What you should look for is a general trend of growth. In any case, you can call Tipat Halav to talk to a nurse about the outcome and your worries.

Right way to weigh

1. Put a clean diaper made of cloth on a scale.

2. Zero out or tare the scale.

3. Take off the baby's clothes and diaper and put the baby on the scale.

4. Write down the weight, up to two decimal places (5.48 kg, for example).

Note that you need a special infant scale to properly weigh babies at home. You can buy these scales in stores, rent them, or get them from organizations that lend out medical devices.

It's important to make sure the scale is properly zeroed out before each measurement.

Right way to measure height

Place a clean cloth diaper on the floor so that it is touching the wall.
Place the unclothed infant on the diaper with the head touching the wall.
Gently straighten and flatten the legs with the knees aligned.
Position a cutting board or flat surface perpendicular to the floor, with the soles of both feet touching the surface completely.
Use a pencil to mark the board's position at the feet.
Precisely measure the distance from the wall to the marked line in millimeters (e.g., 74.8 cm).

It's important to note that this measures the infant's length from the top of the head to the heels while lying flat.

How to measure head circumference at home

Obtain a non-stretchable piece of plastic or paper measuring tape (not cloth).
If there are any bows or braids, undo them.
Have the infant lying down or seated on your lap.
Place the start of the measuring tape at the center of the forehead, midway between the hairline and eyebrows. Wrap it around the back of the head, going over one ear, around the occipital protrusion, then over the other ear, and back to the front starting point. The measurement should be precise to the nearest millimeter (e.g., 44.8 cm).

It's important to measure the maximum head circumference, even if the skull has an irregular shape or deformity.
