At this stage, children can already speak and can tell us what they want and maybe (or mostly) what they do not want too. There may be foods that they do not like or are just uninteresting for now, and that is fine. You can continue offering them these in the future. Alongside this, children develop and learn new things every day, and tend to imitate us, which makes the personal example that you give them very important. Make sure to eat orderly meals at the table and not in front of the television, with a pleasant atmosphere around food, and serve diverse food to the table. Eating should be paced according to children’s hunger and satiety mechanism. If they say they have finished, do not continue offering food, just trust them.
If children’s cutlery eating skills need to be improved, this is a good time to encourage them to try eating with a teaspoon and fork.
