Savings and Financial Aid for Disability Benefit Recipients
If you have been recognized by National Insurance as having a mental health condition and you qualify for a disability benefit, it is important to know that you may be eligible for additional benefits and discounts from various agencies and organizations:
Entitlements for persons eligible for general disability benefit
- National Insurance: exemption from payment of National Insurance fees.
- Banks offer fee discounts for transactions that are done by a bank teller.
- Israel Land Administration: exemption from payment of the agreement fee to the Israel Land Authority upon transfer of leasing rights of the plot of land.
- Ministry of Construction and Housing: assistance in paying rent.
- Ministry of Health: assistance in financing rehabilitation and mobility devices and assistance of the Rehabilitation Basket.
- Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety: disabled parking badge, exemption from vehicle license fee and discount on public transport.
- HMOs: exemption from payment for some of the medical fees.
- Water Authority: quantity of additional water per month at a low rate.
- Tax Authority: exemption from payment of income tax, receive income bonus (negative income tax).
- Land Tax: discount in purchase tax on a residential apartment or land to build a residential apartment.
- Local authorities: discounted property tax.
Entitlements for persons eligible for child disability benefit
The parents of a child with a disability who receives a disability benefit from National Insurance may be entitled to several additional benefits. Some benefits are only given to children who depend on the help of others or need special medical care (National Insurance will inform you if you are entitled to a special benefit).
- Child sick days: parents may take sick days from work to personally help the child with a disability and receive several hours of absence from work without having pay deducted.
- Electric Company: discount in payment of the electricity bill.
- Ministry of Construction and Housing: assistance in home renovation.
- Ministry of Health: assistance in financing rehabilitation and mobility devices.
- Ministry of Education: financing of an assistant in preschool and elementary school.
- Ministry of Welfare: benefits in Rehabilitative Day Care Centers.
- Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety: disabled parking badge and exemption from vehicle license fee.
