Safety
Around the age of one, toddlers begin to take their first steps, with or without support. Their natural curiosity grows, as reflected in eating and playing. This is the stage at which they begin displaying a desire for independence. You should encourage them but also constantly supervise them.
During meals: choose suitable food (and avoid foods that they should not eat until the age of 5 - such as nuts, popcorn and toffee candies). Offer them utensils, such as a spoon for eating and a cup for drinking, and foods with various textures that are suitable for them. It is also important to cut round foods such as sausages or grapes lengthwise to prevent choking.
During play and in the playground: suggest age-appropriate games for toddlers, with a standard mark. When they are outside, it is important to encourage and support them, particularly when they climb, for instance on the stairwell, so that they do not fall from a height.
At home: it is very important to keep potentially harmful bottles of medication or pesticides out of the reach of toddlers. When cooking, make sure that the handles of pots or pans are not protruding and visible from the floor because curious toddlers may try to grab them and pull them. It is also important to be careful and not to leave any protruding objects that might be an obstacle for toddlers walking around the house.
