Safety
Around the age of one, toddlers begin taking their first steps, with or without support. Their natural curiosity grows and is expressed through eating and play. This is the stage when they begin to seek more independence. It is important to encourage this development while continuing to supervise them closely at all times. At this age, it is recommended to continue avoiding screens whenever possible, including background screens, and to encourage play, movement, talking, and singing.
During meals: Choose appropriate foods for them (and avoid foods that are not recommended before age 5, such as nuts, popcorn, and toffee candies). Offer age-appropriate utensils such as a spoon for eating and a cup for drinking, and provide a variety of food textures suitable for their development. It is also important to continue cutting round foods such as sausages or grapes lengthwise to prevent choking.
During play and at playgrounds: Offer age-appropriate toys that meet safety standards. When outdoors, encourage and support toddlers, especially when climbing, such as on stairs, to prevent falls from height.
At home: It is essential to keep medication bottles and cleaning or pesticide products out of reach, as they may be harmful. When cooking, make sure pot and pan handles are not sticking out or visible from the floor, as curious toddlers may try to grab and pull them. In addition, ensure that no protruding objects are left around the home that could become obstacles for toddlers who are walking and exploring.
