Inspection of Geriatric Hospitals
Geriatric hospitals (nursing homes) operate according to the Ministry of Health’s requirements. These requirements apply to different kinds of institutions, including:
- Institutions that treat people with physical impairment and/or with cognitive impairment
- Institutions that treat people as part of an active geriatric care: rehabilitative geriatric care, sub-acute geriatric care, complex long term nursing care, long term resuscitation, etc.
The goal of these requirements is to guarantee the quality of care provided for the patients by the institutions, especially in the medical and nursing fields, and in the health professions, as well as ensuring infrastructure and administration quality.
The Ministry of Health makes a point of maintaining the standards and professional care in the following fields:
- Providing an appropriate healthcare in the medical and nursing fields, and in the health professions on an ongoing basis and during an acute illness
- Ensuring medication administration
- Ensuring a quality of life and leisure activity in accordance with a person’s level of functioning
- Ensuring a person’s privacy, protection, and dignity
- Ensuring adequate living conditions, while observing the residents’ wellbeing
- Maintaining proper sanitation and hygiene conditions
