Safety
Toddlers who were, up to a moment ago, dependent on us or a carriage, are now walking unassisted. They can climb stairs and playground equipment and eat independently with a spoon. They may open drawers and cabinets throughout the home and get their hands on hazardous or flammable materials. We must supervise them and keep those out of reach.
From the age of eighteen months, you should encourage toddlers to perform simple actions on their own, like eating, undressing, playing ball or begin using balance bicycles as well as equipment in the playground. It is important to encourage an active lifestyle, and until the age of two, avoid screen time altogether.
The walk to preschool or the family-run daycare becomes familiar. It is very important to be aware of the dangers on the road, especially when driving a car or when crossing the street. For safety reasons, until the age of two, we will continue to seat toddlers in an age-appropriate rear-facing car seat. Of course, it is critical to never leave toddlers in the car alone, not even for one minute! Every time you exit the car, make sure all family members exit the car too.
