Key points for healthy nutrition during adolescence

During adolescence, the body and brain continue to grow and develop. At the same time, teens begin making more decisions on their own about food: what to eat, when, where, and with whom. Long days away from home, social activities, physical activity, food deliveries, friends, and social media can influence food choices and meal routines. At this stage, it is important to continue providing a supportive framework at home while allowing greater independence in food choices.

To support healthy nutrition during adolescence, we can focus on several points that reflect the independence and changes characteristic of this stage:

  • Flexible daily routine

  • Independence food choices

  • Nutrition around physical activity

  • Conversation about nutrition and body image
