Safety
At ages 3–4, children may seem like independent “little people.” They walk, talk, jump, and try to explore the world on their own. It is important to ensure that their environment is safe as they move around, jump, and climb stairs for fun. Alongside play, movement, and exploration, if screen use is allowed at this age, it is recommended to limit screen time to up to one hour per day, choose high-quality, age-appropriate content, and watch together when possible. Screens should be avoided during the two hours before bedtime.
Around this age, you can begin encouraging children to ride bicycles with training wheels or age-appropriate scooters. Whatever type of transport or equipment is chosen, safety rules must be followed—first and foremost, wearing a helmet.
To encourage physical activity and sports skills, outings to the beach or swimming pool are also a good option, but they must always take place under full adult supervision.
In the car, continue to transport children in a car seat with internal harness straps until the age of 5.
